I was checking out a video about AC/DC on their current tour. It's amazing how much hard work and effort they put into maintaining the level of quality of their product. Everything down to the tiniest detail is considered. They truly spare no expense to keep their product quality intact.
Amongst the classic AC/DC hits is a song called Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap. The song tells the story of a guy who will do your dirty work for a low price.
The all too common saying you get what you pay for rings very true in the IT world.
We all have this tendency to demonize technology. This idea that somehow things used to be so much better way back when. How now, we have this evil thing in our lives call technology that we have to live with.
And so technology has been justified in our minds as a necessary evil.
The downside of this notion is that the value that we place on technology is very low, because we don't love it, we don't embrace it, and frankly we don't give a rats ass about it.
All this negativity and nostalgia about technology ends up leading people down the road of many a bad IT decision.
Which brings me back to the old phrase - You get what you pay for. You get your dirty deeds done dirt cheap. I suppose I've made my point. No need to espouse the merits of technology. You wouldn't be here if you weren't trying to get your tech right.
I'm going to go listen to some more AC/DC now. Make it a great day!
