Technology Needs Information

People tend to focus on the technology more than the information.

When it comes to information technology more often than not…

People tend to focus on the technology more than the information.

But IT is a balancing act.

In order to have effective and efficient IT environment you’ll need information and technology powering your business.

For example.

Your IT person might recommend a new server for your accounting system.

That’s technology.

But if your IT person tells you…

To more efficiently process transactions and provide you with better reporting we will need to update your accounting system.

Well that’s a whole different proposal.

It’s information that helps us to make good decisions.

Without the proper data points and reporting business decisions are at best gut level decisions.

Not to say that that is a bad thing.

It’s just that most people prefer to make decisions based on data.

That’s how I look at it.

I could be wrong.

It’s important to balance your information and your technology.

It’s important to know the value of why something needs to change in your business.

The reality is that it’s more difficult to apply value to technology than it is to information.

It’s more difficult to apply value to technology than it is to information.

So next time someone is telling you I need to buy a piece of tech.

Ask them how will the new tech improve your information flow.

Technology needs information.
