I was meeting with a new client yesterday and he said something that caught my attention.
I understand how you guys work.
You sign me up for your service.
Then you sell me a bunch of stuff.
And then you support it.
I smiled and said.
It’s important to remember that - tech is a journey and not a destination.
Things are not just one and done.
We then proceeded to discuss version 1.0 of his tech roadmap.
I made it a point to explain that version 1.0 was the beginning of the journey.
And that we would be meeting every so often to update our roadmap.
It’s important to educate clients as they take their first step towards getting their tech right.
It’s easy to fall into the trap of one and done.
It’s what many IT provider’s sell.
Heck, some IT providers just come in, sell you a bunch of gear, mostly set it up, and then leave.
This kind of approach leaves businesses in a bad state.
Trying to run your business in a broken state ain’t great.
As we wrapped up our meeting the client now had a clearer view of where we’re headed.
He feels he’s in good hands.
And I’m glad we’re able to help.
IT is a journey and not a destination.
It’s not one and done.
