Data is king.

Understanding the key metrics in your business is critical to your success.

Recently, more and more of my clients are implementing data analytics solutions.

With this new tool at their disposal clients are mounting large screen TVs in key areas of their offices.

Whether it’s sales metrics or financial metrics - data analytics is an awesome tool to have in your tool belt.

But what about that pesky data?

You know, the stuff that’s used to make those fancy charts.

Which begs the question...

How is your data Feng Shui?

You see, the biggest challenge that clients have, yours truly included, is data cleanliness.

With so many years of data accumulated in our systems, combined with all those times we decided to change how we do things in our businesses - we’ve created some messy data.

And when your date is messy - your metrics are off.

So how do we get there from here?

Meaning, how do we our data clean so that our charts are right?

Well, the first step is to figure out what metrics you are going to track first.

Then clean that data.

Now you're ready to start implementing a data analytics app.

That was easy!

Now that you’re on your way to KPI happiness the next step is to clean the rest of your data.

There are many data cleansing tools and services out there but they can be pricey.

One thing we do is bring in a temp every so often and have them clean sections of the data in our systems.

This helps us to keep things under control.

Once you’ve got things under control it’s everyone’s job to help keep the data clean.

It’s up to you to enforce process across the organization so that people are inputting data in the correct manner.

Good data means good metrics.

Data analytics is awesome.

Knowing where your business is at at all times really makes a difference.

It’s a competitive advantage.

Get your data Feng Shui rocking and you’ve got a good recipe for success.

The possibilities are endless.
