You Can't Delegate Success

KNOW THY BUSINESS

I was talking with a friend the other day about business growth.

He’s an avid outsourcer.

He outsources everything.

The less he has to do the better.

It’s not a bad concept.

But there’s a catch.

There’s no understanding.

And without understanding…

You’re at the mercy of your choices.

Let me explain.

If you want your business finances in order you can hire a bookkeeper, a contract CFO or an accounting firm.

Each one will provide you with a slightly different service.

Each one will give you their advice.

But without you understanding your finances—you’re just at the mercy of your choice.

The same goes for sales.

If you want your sales to grow you can hire a sales guy, you can hire a company to provide you leads, or you can buy into one of the many sales systems available online.

Each one will give you their advice.

But without you understanding your own sales process—you’re at the mercy of your choice.

I’m not saying you can’t glean a little something from working with other people.

It’s a great way to learn.

What I am saying is this.

Any good small business owner or CEO knows his/her business.

Sales, Finance, Marketing, Operations, Tech.

In a small business, you need to know these areas in your business.

And know them well.

I’m not saying you need to be an expert.

But you need to understand these areas in order to manage them.

I’m not saying you need to get down into the weeds in all of these areas.

But you should at least know what’s planted in your garden.

Floating above these areas, or blinding outsourcing your way to happiness will result in lost dollars.

In paying for services that never yield the growth you seek.

And at the end of the day…

You’ll be left with an unmanaged area of your business.

Know your business.

Know how it works.

Know it well.

You can’t delegate success.
